77' GMC 3/4 ton
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:37:03 PM »
This is a cool sight, and I'm glad to see that everyone has no intentions of letting the "old" become the "forgotten".
I thought I'd share a few pics and a brief history of my truck.
It's a one owner,33 yrs and still adding up.I managed to convince my Dad to sign a note,so I could buy it when I turned 16 and got my license. It proved to be the hardest purchase I would ever make.Going to school and working 60 hrs a week, and worth it. $3900.00+TTL.
Here's the spec's: GMC Sierra Grande 25 H.D,454ci,Saginaw 4 spd,14 bolt Dana 373. It still retains the original engine and drive train.
I cut my teeth as a mechanic on this one and began building the truck I wanted. No one had or has ever turned a wrench on it but me.When I did the off frame restoration in 1990,I also taught myself how to paint, how to sew, performed the build on the big block, went completely thru the drive train, and asked enough questions to do the sound system install.
I wish I could say that this project is completed, but you guy's know the story.
In the 30 plus years of ownership,it has created some strife, seen run-ins with the law, sent 2 ex-wives packing and gobbled up it's share of gasoline, but we've been everywhere and we're going there again.
Hope you like it as much as I have.

Hey Guy's,thanks for looking at it. I'm considering a modification to my truck and thought I'd throw it out here to get some feedback. I've obtained a 5 spd manual trans with a 4 spd under/overdrive that was used in a haultruck application along with the 2 spd split rear differential. It was removed from a 97' Chevy 1 ton. I can't say I have a defined purpose for this setup, but thought the 2 stick split tranny's along with the split differential would be neat to have. What do ya'll think ?

I think it would be a neat install, if it can be done without taking away from the beauty of your truck. In other words, if it can be installed without messing up the awesome looks of the truck now, then why not. Not all mods need to make sense, or have a purpose, some are just done to see if they can be done.

I think it would be cool if you like the feel of driving an old school bus...  :P

I'd leave it alone persoanlly... Looks sharp and I'd like to see some more pix.
