need some opnions and suggestions.
« on: October 22, 2009, 05:19:16 pm »
well hey guys hows everyone been?
well after doing some parts gathering and some side work its time to do paint work... again! lol
were doing a base clear this time, gloss black.
and ill finally fix some pesky dents that i forgot to fix before.
now heres my questions.

1.
ive got the factory bumper that came with this truck and its seen better days chrome wise, metal wise its straight.
i was thinking if painting this bumper the color of the truck and cutting some fog lamp holes.
how hard is it to prep the bumper for painting?

2.
does anyone here know of a good autobody supplier that can get me the chevy grille setup for my 89-91 front end for a decent price?

3.
tailgate wise what is everyones opnion?
ive got a factory band thats in good shape but dont know how it will look since almost everything else chrome will be gone.

ill post some pics up later tonight on how the truck sits right now.

As far as painting the chrome bumper. I have done them in the past, I took a 5" air grinder with 36 grit disc's. Ground the whole thing down, sprayed it with self etching primer, then with half a dozen coats of high build urethane primer. Block sanded them out, then paint.

ive already got some 3" fogs and some 3" id exhaust tube im going to use.
probally best to just torch or plazma them out?

I would try a good quality hole saw first. If that dosn't work then plasma them.

1) I would just get a bumper for the 81-82 or you can buy them now with the holes in them for fogs.
2)The same company that sells the bumpers sells your grille.
3)I would ditch the tailgate band personally.

Paint the band black also, and leave the letters chrome. It would be different or just smooth the tailgate with a tailgate skin and flip the handle inside.

Like Vile said you can just go with an 81-82 factory bumper.
The red truck is an 82 with the holes he is talking about.
