87' R-30 Horn issues
« on: October 31, 2009, 08:59:09 am »
My 87' R-30 project is moving along, however, my horn has stopped working. I checked the fuse and it is ok. I cannot locate the the relay for it. I have looked everywhere I think. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

It's up near the steering column. Let me see if I have a pic. First check right at the horn with a test light. If it lights up when you press the horn, replace the horn. Then check the flat connector at the base of the column and make sure all the pins are seated and the connector is tight. I'll look for a pic.

OK so I replaced the relay since it was the original one. I then checked the horn for power. No power is going to it. I checked the pin connector to make sure the connections were tight. While I was at it I coated all the connectors with dielectric grease since some of the terminals had some corrosion on them. The horn still doesn't work.
Have I missed anything? What else should I try? ???

No power at the horn when you push the button right?

Take your test light to cavity A of the relay harness. It should light up.

Hook your test light to power and probe cavity B. Press the horn and it should light up. If it doesn't the problem is in the column

Ok, so I finally located the bad wire and indeed the horn itself was no good. Thanks for the help.

On to another problem. My fuel gage is not working . i have called several junk yards to try and find one. No luck.
Is there any place to check where I might find a used oem one .
Thanks
Steve ???
