Anyone got long tube headders?
« on: November 17, 2009, 03:20:35 pm »
Anyone know what all would have to be done to get a nice set of long tube headers to fit one of these old trucks? I have always wanted an engine that had long tubes, for some reason. So what all would be involved, as necessary modifications go? Hopefully not hacking into the frame, or anything. This would be on a truck that is going to stay stock ride height. 80's model.

There's plenty of bolt on long tube headers available. The mods you will have to do will be hooking up the exhuast to the collector flanges and a power steering bracket fab

That's what I was looking for. So just a power steering bracket... doesn't sound too difficult.

It's an 87 tbi engine. I guess being painted, they are sure to rust huh. Other than that, there is probly zero difference between them and those high dollar sets.

My flowtechs went in easy on my 81. No need to mess with the ps bracket.

Could always go chrome...I bought a set of Thorley headers over 6 years ago, not a spot of rust. That is after numerous times wheeling in mud, snow and sand....ocean sand.

Mine are chrome.

Do they still have the chrome look? I always thought the chrome ones eventually changed colors.

Yes, slight blueing but mostly dirty from mud. Was too lazy to clean them. I actually do like the look of the blueing. They are chromed for protective purposes, not for show. Im sure if I take them off and clean them up, they will be purdy....
