Look at your sending unit underneath the truck. Is it a one-wire? Mine on my 78 only has one wire going to it. When the valve GETS POWER , it selects the left tank. And when the valve gets NO POWER it selects the right tank. I might have that backwards, but you get the idea.

I might have that backwards, but you get the idea.I don't remember how many wires are on my sending units (one on each tank) but the selector valve, which I think that is what your referring to, I believe it has one wire. BUT I bought it from Pollak a few years ago and Im pretty sure it it is not the same as stock.
