EGR Manifold on non-EGR engine
« on: November 02, 2009, 04:02:19 pm »
I have a 1981 GMC C20 with 350 and an Edelbrock Performer EGR manifold. There is no emission equipment on the truck but the manifold has a simply steel threaded plug where the EGR valve should be. Is this the correct way to block the EGR in the intake?

The EGR is usually blocked off with a plate.  I'd say if it doesn't leak a NPT plug is OK too.

Problem is there are 2 ports for EGR the one coming from the exhaust crossover and the one going to the Intake plenum, If just the exhaust side is threaded and plugged , you will still have a major intake leak . so that is why people use a plate , it covers both ports.

The manfold still has the plate that the EGR valve itself screwed into. It looks like the EGR valve was unscrewed and a plug put in. I do not see any other hole in the area.
