Delayed shifting in a 700r4 trans
« on: November 30, 2009, 09:30:24 pm »
I just rebuilt the trans in my 87 Jimmy 4x4. It is a 700r4 trans and after a short road test I found that it is late shifting between 1-2 after trans is warmed up. The 2-3 seems ok, 4 is questionable because for now as I haven't been able to drive to far at road speed. Also after it is warmed out there is a delay in reverse maybe 5-10 sec. before it will move. When it was rebuilt I installed a kit that included plates and discs. Are the 2 delayed issues related or separate issues??

Thanks for the help

Did it shift correctly before you rebuilt it? You adjusted the TV cable correctly yes? What shift kit did you use? Did you install the valve body and case gaskets correctly? What did you use for assembly lube?

Thanks for the reply, will have to check the valve plates and we used vaseline as assembly lube. Not sure how it worked before becuase it was an extra that came with the Jimmy when I bought and it wouldn't go into reverse. Probably won't be able to check it for awhile because winter is upoun us now.

Thanks again for replying
