454 vortec heads
« on: January 25, 2010, 11:46:22 pm »
I have found a low mileage "35000" 454 out of a RV for a good price. $600

And also a set of vortec heads that are in need of a rebuild. $350obo

My question is would the vortec heads be worth the extra money plus the cost of a rebuild.

Or rebuild the heads that are on the motor. This will be my first bbc.

Thx Josh

What's the casting # on the heads that are on it? I wouldn't spend $350 on those heads

big block vortecs arent like sbc vortecs, they quite breathing at 5000 then drop on there face..but pull real hard and great for a 5k rpm motor or less on the street

good price on the 454, it has peanut port heads on it. Vortecs flow better than the peanut heads and you can make around 500hp with them. $350. for a set that need to be rebuilt? I don't think so! maybe 350 if they were ready to bolt on.
