Cleaning up Leaf Springs

So my leaf springs are a bit rusty. Their still strong, etc. just rusty. Is there a good way to clean up these springs and paint them?
I'd thought about using Por-15 on them, but since they flex would that work?
What have you guys done?

take them off and sand, wire wheel on a diegrinder/drill, or sand blast them take them apart replace the end bushings, centering bolt, and u-bolts. Might as well clean and paint the diff while your at it.

Pressure wash, needle scale, wire brush, Paint with Chassis Saver, or POR 15. Chassis Saver is half the money and the same stuff. I would top coat them with and acrylic enamel with an activator too. Do it all with a brush.

I'd take the loose stuff off (needle scaler like Blazin said) and hit them with acid bath. If they are off pull em apart and you can try the electrolytic rust removal procedure.

Take them out, pull then apart, hit them with a wire wheel, some Rustoleum rusty metal primer, them a few coats of black paint. Replace the plastic spring pads as needed and put a good coat of grease between the springs when you put the pack back together to prevent future rust.
This is one of those things that will not cost allot of $$, just your time.
