Narrower Rear Track Width

I have heard that trucks have narrower rears than front track width.  Was this only on certain configurations? Cause my father, best friend and I all measured my width and its the same front and rear.  I drive a 1989 3/4 ton Suburban 2wd.  I was under the impression i needed wheel spacers to correct the track width, but according to the tape measure i don't.

Measure wms to wms front and back. You may have one set of rims offset.....maybe.

It's the 4WD trucks with the wider front track. I believe it's 4" difference.

It seems most vehicles in general (at least domestic) have or had slightly narrower rear track than front.

Why this is i don't know.

All 4 rims and tires are the same, but it looks to me like the rear are tucked in about a half in farther than the front.  It must be that the rear quarter is wider than the front.

It allows for better handling during cornering and turns....

Narrow rear will handle better. Think of the extreme, like a ATC. Very wide in the rear and handle like crap
