IIRC it's for the neutral safety/park safety switch.

Look for the plastic switch that slides open and closed when you push the clutch pedal.

If its disconnected then its been by passed. The truck wouldn't start with it unplugged, and an open circuit.

Can you post a pic of the wires and the connector? We need more info, as far as if anything else doesn't work right, for example if your high beams don't work then those wires could be for your floor dimmer, if your reverse lights don't work then it's for that, etc., but a pic would be best.

Does the truck start without the clutch pressed now? You should have that switch on the pedal with the yellow and purple wire. On an automatic the same wires go to the park safety switch at the base of the steering column. Has the column been swapped?

Yes the truck will start in gear without the clutch pressed or in neutral without pressing the clutch
The column hasn't been swapped as far as I know but my dash does have the place wher park reverse neutral and drive would be on an automatic trans vehicle can I add pics with my iPhone if so I will just let me know how to thanks

With your iphone, Open a reply and to the left of the post button there is a link that says "Additional Options". Click that and at the bottom of the options that open up it says attach and there is a browse button. Click browse and find your pictures. Select the picture you want and it will upload it when you post. It will not show in the post preview. You can attach up to 4 by pressing the "more attachments" button to the right of the browse button. I do it all the time from my Samsung Vibrant, Android phone. Should work from the iphone, But I have never tried it from one.

The pedal assembly on the left is the hydraulic set up, on the right is the mechanical linkage you can see the switches installed.
If you dont have the switch installed you can pick them up from your local auto parts store.
However, if it is unplugged the circuit should be open(the engine should not turn over without the clutch pushed in) and you'll have to find where it was bypassed and undo it.
