MSD Ignition?

I finally got back to working on my 1980 short box 2WD peesa crap truck last weekend. The engine's been pretty well ready to run since I left it at the end of February. I put the new Edelbrock carb on it Sunday. I'm gonna take the valve covers off and put a set on that I took a grinder to and opened the top up so I can set the valves (and see oil pump out the pushrods when I prime the system). Anyway, the truck had a HEI dizzy when I got it, and I was gonna just tune it up and run it. But I got a wild hair and decided to haul out the Summit catalog. I ended up ordering a MSD-6AL box, Blaster 2 coil, ready to run dizzy with vacuum advance, and a set of 8.5mm wires. Anyone here have that setup on their small block V8? Do you like it? Worth the ching?

If you set everything up correctly, You will love it! Everyone over looks the ignition system - big mistake. For MSD I have had very good luck.

MSD is great and if you ever have any problems they can rebuild the whole system if you send it to them very reasonably.

i have worn out 2 balster 2 coils... they are oil bath and need to mount near verticle acording to MSD rep i talked to.. i have since up graded to the solid state Blaster SS coils

def spend some money on some low resistant plug wires as well.. i have gone threw 3 sets of msd super condutor 8.5 wires between 2 engines..

on a 9:1 engine .070 gap on the plugs with a nice carmel brown coating with ac delcoe rt43 plugs

Very good set up but don't get rid of that hei..the blaster coil will eventually burn up on you and as long as you keep the internals of the hei you can put it back together and use the 6al2 to regulate the hei. This will ensure optimum spark above 4500 as most hei's tend to fall off @ and above this rpm range. Honestly, I'd send the kit back and just get the 6al2 and save a few hundred..
