steering colum

I am putting my truck back together and I have noticed that on my steering colum there is a bearing that appears to be shot. how do i get this thing apart, is it easy to change?

there is some type of bearing in my steering column. It is just outside the fire wall and down the shaft about 8 ". there is some type of c clip that appers to hold it all in place. I can also see a platic ring that appers to be broken as well. I cant seem to figure how to get it apart. Do I have to tske the entier column out? what is this bearing called
