Request photos of your new or custom bench seats
« on: October 04, 2010, 05:06:10 pm »
I have an 82 GMC K1500 that needs a new seat cover bad (see photo). Someone at work is a novice upholsterer (he's done the campus golf carts and they came out pretty good) and said he could re-upholster my bench seat so I'm looking for ideas. Thanks.

I built new brackets and put an 06 Ram quadcab 40/20/40 in mine. I can get pictures of it, but it required quite a bit of fabrication to make it work. It was worth it for me though because the seat was free, and it's quite comfy.

How is the width of that Ram seat in your cab? I was thinking of a Dakota 40/20/40 seat but maybe that is too narrow. Does that Ram seat have bolt-holes at all 4 corners of each seat, and the center seat? Sounds like it would be complicated making a frame to fit the 4 holes our cabs have.

If I remember right it's 1/2" or so wider than the stock bench, about 60" I think. From what I saw of the newer big 3 trucks the dodge had the widest. It uses all 4 original mounting holes, and I tied it into the two seatbelt mounting bolts in the middle. The front mounts I welded L-shaped brackets to it. The ram seat mounts on a flat floor so initially it sat about a foot too high. I made 4" C-channel with 2x2 angle and flat plate for the back mounts. It's solid, and the seats adjust independently, but I might revise the design to something a little less bulky and better looking. It's awesome except you can't just flip the seat ahead to put stuff behind it. I put a 10" sub under the console.
