got screwed!

well as some of you know i had a delema renting a car hauler from uhaul to tow one of my cars that i was finaly selling/trading. well it worked out and i got the trailer in the long run so no issue there. well i was planned to meet up with the guy today(sunday 10-10-10) before noon. i talked to the guy friday night and then again saturday night to make sure everything was as planned. my father in law and i left this morning at about 8:30am from fort defiance va hauling the car and went to culpeper va about 80miles away. when i got the the address the guy gave me a little after 10am it was some storage units and some buildings for buisness. i called him and no answer and no respond to texts so we rode around and got some lunch and then drove back to the building i had the adress for and after looking the "house number" he gave me was for a well in a nutshell a "sex store". i did a phone number look up and found that the nuber has been reported multiple times for doing prank calls. i tried to find his house address and did find it but decided that it would probably be safer legaly and physicly if we jut turned and went home mad. i didnt really loose anything on the whole thing except for the price of renting the trailer ($60) and putting gas in the truck and half a day riding around because someone wanted to play games with me. he found my ad on the thirdgen.org message forum im a member of and contaced me through email and then later by phone. i do not have his email still i have deleted it so i have no way of knowing who he is on that forum but i notified the mods in the for sale section on the forum just in case someone else has this issue. ive tried calling him a few more times this evening and still nothing. at first i figured maybe something came up but once we rode around and found what the actual address was and did some research on the number i knew it was someone messing with me. :/ well thats my rant

 So what exactly happened here?
 Did the guy ever come to look at the car in person? It sounds like he didn't.
 By you saying you are out $60 it sounds like the car was never paid for, correct?
 Not trying to kick you while you are down but why in the world would you rent a trailer, load up your car, drive an 1.5 hours (3 hrs round trip), all for someone you have never met in hopes that they will buy your car?
 I sell a few cars a week on CL and sometimes I will deliver the cars to people, but never without being paid in full first.

we were doing a trade some parts for my car. i ended up just taking the car back home. we had exchanged detailed pictures of the car and parts. oh well ill just gut it and keep what i need for my other build and scrap the rest.

I would search your sent folder most times people don’t delete that just their received mail

Why would you delete the email especially if you were trading pix? Look in your trash bin. If you spoke to someone back and fourth with the phone numbers exchanged and the number did work, there must be a way of tracking this guy down. I would just for the sake of letting everyone else know who he is if not just to find him and kick his butt.

I still have the phone number and I have his name address ect ect but I had recently cleaned out all my email since well it was full its been over a year and I just happend to do it now :/.

So what have you learned from this? Clean out your inbox more often, and "never" delete any email until your sure it has served it purpose.

Oh yeah, and never assume a deal is carved in stone till your walking away with the goods in your hands.

My Gmail account goes back to 2004 and the only emails I've deleted are junk mails. Maybe you should get a Gmail account, you won't have to worry about deleting your emails.
