wheel stud install....

i bought all new wheel studs and lug nuts today. finally doin it right. i was told u could just tap them in with a hammer. after knockin them out i thought it sounded reasonable. i been hammerin and they get close but they wont seat fully. is there a trick or something i need to know? or do i just keep forcing?

I put a acorn style lug nut on backwards so it sits flat side towards mounting surface and impact gun em down, pulls them nice and tight.

Put a few drops of oil on the threads first. Put a couple large flat washers down before the nut, they prevent marring while turning...kinda like a bearing. Also don't use the same nut for all of the studs...it can get wore & foul up your new stud. I would suggest not using the nuts to old your wheel on that you used for installing the studs for the same reason. Grab a few extras. Lorne

Only way I ever got them to all seat perfectly without using a nut and washers like haulin it said, was to use a press.   Washers that fit the studs correctly are key for clamping them down.

Preesed em in at work. Gotta say its nice and tight. Just dont have an impact. And i was scared cause i didnt know how tuff the new studs were.x

I use a socket wrench, impact can cause too much damage.

Big C-clamp and a deep socket big enough to fit over the stud.
