Steering shaft service parts?
« on: September 27, 2008, 04:03:48 pm »
So I have all the steering gear removed and decided to pull the steering shaft out to in order to inspect it better and clean it up too.   Do any of you know if there's somewhere that sells a boot for the upper end?  Mine is a bit deteriorated and the only option that any of the parts stores here have suggested this afternoon was that I'd have to replace the whole shaft.  I took out the large snap ring but I left the boot alone for now.

I was able to obtain the coupler parts (rubber washer things) that go between the shaft and the box but that's all that seems to be available for service parts.

You can get a replacement shaft aftermarket or GM but not sure about the boot. I would check with a GM dealer.

I'm trying the same thing right now. I bought a seal/boot that fits Jeep shafts for $14. Paddock sells the original kind for $29. It looks like it's going to fit but I'm having a hard time trying to get the old seal and shaft off. If anyone knows let us know.

Did you ever find an aftermarket boot that would fit ? Mine has a 1/4 in hole in it and none of the junk yards around here have any parts.
