Clutch linkage questions?
« on: August 16, 2011, 08:35:12 pm »
Ok I was driving my 79 to work yesterday morning when a bolt fell down from directly over my left foot.  ???

I checked the clutch real quick to make sure it would still disengage and kept driving. Drove my car today and crawled under the dash when I got home and here is what I found.

So I can tell where it swings up and bolts back into position, but I don't know what the heck it is? :D Can somebody take a few minutes to educate me please because I'm only vaguely familiar with the mechanical clutch linkage on these trucks.

Also I have a painfully annoying squeak that will not go away when depressing the clutch. I have tried spraying all the linkage places I can see with white grease but the squeak still persists. I was wondering if the ends of the pedal return spring behind the dash are supposed to have bushings in there or are they supposed to be metal to metal contact like this one?

Thanks for any help!

:-[ Sorry I thought I got a good pictures of the mystery piece.  The top part I've seen refered to as a bumper? It swings back up towards the back of the dash bezel and has one sincel bolt hole that adjoins it to the clutch linkage.

The bottom picture is the bottom of the clutch pedal return spring where it connects to the clutch pedal. Anybody have a well labeled diagram of the clutch linkage behind the dash as well as on the frame/bell housing?

Is this hydraulic or mechanical?
Here is a picture of both: Hydraulic on Left, Mechanical on the right:
