I host my own pics and I try to stress to anyone who will listen, how incredibly easy it is. All my many websites domains are bought from from yahoo. I rent space for one website space from yahoo (delbridge.net) and create hidden domains that direct to that one website, therefore only pay for one website's worth of space. I have about ten domains that are directed to a derivative of delbridge.net, but, by putting in something like hikermania.com you will not see that it is actually pulling up delbridge.net/hikermania . That way, i don't have to rent space for all my domains. I just register my domain names (infinitebookshelf.com; valleybridgelyrics.com; valleybridgepublishing.com; thejails.com; ponderedthoughts.com; roadtodisaster.com; 12thVa.com; and a few more). All my domains i register are registered directly through yahoo as well for like $10 each.
Anyway, for about $12 a month, you can have all the space that you would ever need for your website(s) (about 15 yrs worth of pics and info and i never have come close to filling up my space).
if you go to yahoo.com and scroll all the way down and look at bottom right of page, you will see something like 'yahoo for small business" then click 'small business solutions'. This will explain everything. There is a blue button that says 'access my account' on the top right which is my FTP to upload whatever i want to my rented space control panel. Then on whatever website domain i wish, i will put the link of the pic, info, video, whatever i upload to that website.
I program HTML language for my websites, but, in today's era, that is the ancient way to do things. They have numerous website design programs that make it easy as typing a Word document to create a website now. Then just upload your website. I still like doing it the old fashioned way because i like the programming end of things and tinker more with them. On any website, you can click on your browser's tool bar on top (most use microsoft explorer) you can click on "view" and "source" and actually see the code one uses to create the site.
Getting back to pics, there are numerous pic editing software you can get very cheaply like photoshop elements or something that you can resize pics, edit colors, type words on them, whatever, then upload to your website. Many new cameras come w/ editing software for free.
just my $.02 worth.
