1985 K-10 Front Driveshaft Grease Seal

Anyone know the part number for the seal that goes in the area shaded in the photo?  I believe it retains the grease over the splines...

I have never seen a seal. Might be wrong but I know I just grease till new grease comes out the splines where u circled

From experience with the slip yoke in the middle of my 2 piece drive shaft, there is an oring inside of the dist cap on the female end of the drive shaft. That is what retains the grease. It slips onto the male end, you put the male in into the female end, and the dust cap threads onto the female end on the tip. I can post pics probably tomorrow if you need. But I believe the part you need is a Dust Cap.

In the picture to the left the thing with the horizontal lines threads onto the male portion of the slip yoke.  The seal was within the cap.  It wasn't an o ring per se, more like a plastic or hard rubber seal...at least from what I could make of what was left of it.

Buddy of mine made a new one for his truck out of jute carpet padding. It works pretty good. It not so much a seal as it is to keep dirt etc. out of the splines. When you grease them a little come out past. I have never seen and O ring in one but I'm sure if you got one that fit snug inside the cap it would work.

I was replacing the carrier bearing on my drive shaft and noticed the same thing. It appears there was a plastic or rubber seal under the cap. I went to the parts store and they looked at me like I was stupid. Any ideas?

Check this link out from northern drivetrain:  http://www.northerndrivetrain.com/category/cat_misc_DustCapAssys.html.  They list the Spicer part numbers and sizes when you click on the part details.  I'm not sure which one it is you need but I'd put my money on the third from the bottom.  My truck had splined cork seals on the drive shafts but there's not much left of them now!  Once you get slop in your splines these where out quick.

Went to the local chevy dealership today. There is a seal under the cap. OEM part number 7827942.  $13.00 bucks!

anybody know if that seal is the same as the one on a 2-piece rear driveshaft for a '78 3/4 ton?  I need one too.

     The other place to check would be a drive line shop, I bet they deal with them a lot.
