Inner rocker measurements
« on: August 27, 2012, 09:50:18 pm »
Ok I started making an inner rocker and I have all the peices made.  I just need some measurements of the flat flange and the part that supports the floor lengthwise...

You want to know what size the replacement is, or how long you need it?

I know the replacement is 33.5 inches long and  6.5" wide. I need to know what the measurements are for the part that steps up in to the floor and the flat flange that stick up lengthwise. I am not sure if they are split up right in the middle or are different lengths. I also need to know how tall the flat flange is...

Maybe I'm missing something here, but if you are repairing rust, cut out the offending area (hopefully less than the new replacement) and then trim your patch panel to fit.

Those 2 lengths are pretty much split.  If you aren't going to weld it, use panel adhesive.  You will be doing this again if you use rivets.

Ok thanks Chris for the info on the inner rocker. But yea I was not really sure about just using rivets. I thought about using rivets and self sheet metal screws. Could I use the rivets and screws along with the adhesive?

If you use panel bond adhesive you won't need any screws.

So chris you are saying that I could use rivets with the screws or rivets and the adhesive?

This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill......Welding!    Welding is the BEST way to perform this repair.  Being able to weld will open up a whole new world to you and what you can fix or create.

Just the adhesive, no screws or rivets.

Just an opinion:  I've seen plenty of floor patches and even small rust repair panels put in with rivets.  They don't hold up too bad.  Rockers and floor supports are a little too structural to not use a welder.  Panel bond is strong stuff but I have a hard time picturing it on an inner rocker or floor support.  Floor patch, outer rocker, you could use it.  Bolts and nuts on both ends of the floor support and panel bond everywhere else should work, I guess.
