89-91 Silverado front end versus the 81-87 quad light front
« on: August 25, 2012, 10:44:58 am »
I am at a place in my 1985 C20 Scottsdale facelift and want your guys opinions regarding what I should do....  The picture is showing where I am at.  I found the core support section where the inner fender well bolts to it having some rust issues.  I have a replacement fender and new GM inner as well as a very nice battery tray.  I have heard that the 89-91 lights on the newer front end are not the best but I really like the appearance of them.  I have squirreled away two complete core supports in both styles.  I know the quad set up works great for lights especially when all 4 are on.  Anyone who has done the conversion please post your opinions...

I haven't done the swap myself, but I love the 89-91 gmc setup, especially on a truck.

Yes, the light output is so bad it's a safety issue IMO.  To fix that issue on my 1990 Suburban, I installed a set of Hella headlights and relayed them.  It was somewhat costly for the Hella headlights but the difference was highly worth it.

I would go for either and just convert them to HID's and put a phantom grille over it.  Hide it all.

You can get around the bad lighting as stated, go with the one you like.

I prefer stacked at over the 89-91 at this point in time.  12 year ago, it was the other way around.

I like both but prefer the quad setup. The truck has to have the right look in order for me to like the newer setup.

I have decided to keep what I have, fix it with a repair section section cut off from my 86C10 which the 91 front was for anyway.

Good call I'm getting sick of all the 89-91 front end swaps . How did this get in the engine drivetrain section?

My bad, I asked the mods once I figured I put it in the wrong spot to put it in the body section, eventually it will get moved
