Emissions system
« on: April 16, 2013, 07:19:49 am »
1985 1/2 ton 2WD 305 V8  So all the emissions...hoses, vacuum lines, air pump, charcoal canister...all that stuff, what can I eliminate, what can I discard to make the engine compartment cleaner and less cluttered?  After years does this stuff even work anymore?

most states wont let you touch that stuff. inspection is a big deal if you remove it you wont pass if you have to pass it again

same here... in FL there is not testing... is your truck TBI or carburated... i would everything except the fuel/charcoal canister.... i would leave that just to prevent having the smell of fuel vapors on hot days...

well if its a carb... you can take everything out and just leave the carb... but like i said before i would leave the charcoal canister... what kind of carb do you have... is it a quadrajet? thought about installing an aluminum intake and some headers?

if no testing and its not being used you can remove it. but i just like to warn people that its against federal law to tamper or remove any emission device on a vehicle that is taged for the road. tho more than likely unless you say hey cop look what i did, they wont bother you

yeah it's a Q-jet.  No headers or aluminum intake for this truck.  The truck is solid, no rust but it looks like crap.  it's just the truck I sometimes use to drive to work, haul dirt, wood or whatever (normally I ride one of my bicycles everywhere).  I keep it in top shape, you could drive it across the country tomorrow without a worry.  The only reason I want to strip the crap from under the hood is to access valve cover gaskets easier and the such as well as just a cleaner engine compartment.
