Front right clicking noise !
« on: July 20, 2013, 01:10:45 pm »
86 c10 custom deluxe 8 ft bed

New rubber
- upfront / Mickey 255/60/15
- outback / Mickey 295/50/15

New rims
- upfront / cragar smoothie 15x8 rear spacing 4-1/4"
- outback / cragar smoothie 15x10 rear spacing 4-1/4"

It sounds like the front right is clicking now... The previous rims/tires never made the noise .... Drove truck last night and was fine ... Slapped the new tire/rims on and took for a spin and now wouldn't you know I have noise now ... Eye balled it and I can't see anything rubbing ...

Any ideas what's wrong ? Do I Need a spacer upfront ?

Thanks guys !

If you have aftermarket rims and the center cap just slides in from the back it may be loose and that is what you are hearing???

Thanks for the replys !

The darn noise was from the weights behind the wheel . Every revolution the weights would click the caliper... The tire shop put 2 rows of weight ( the sticky kind ) on top of each Other ... So it's built up pretty high ... Weird but the front left has only 1 row of 6 and the front right has 1 row but 2 high of 6 for a total of 12 ....

Hmmmm...

You might ask the tire shop to break that one tire down and rotate it 180 degrees on the rim. This should change the amount of weight needed to balance the tire. Hopefully they can go back with only a single stack of weights.

You can also see if the tire shop does Road force testing.  This is where they remount the tire until the lightest weight/no weight is used.  This cost extra at every tire shop I have ever been to.

your post got me thinking about a clicking noise on my truck. (noise started after adding new tires).  went to the tire store to have them check out the noise, and surprise!!!!!, the noise was from the old set of center caps on my front wheels, the caps had some rust on them, so it was a no brainer to replace them. about $15.00 later I was out the door and running with no more clicking noises from the front end.  it's a diesel so there is still plenty of noise from the engine though.
