I am replacing the oil pan in my '79 plow truck. I bought a one piece gasket that is designed for either right hand or left hand dip stick. My engine is an '82 as dip stick is on the passenger side and engine code is stamped V0618TFW. My question is how is it the manufacturer did not include the cut out piece to dummy up the opposite side ? When looking at the pan and gasket mated up it looks like only a small sliver ( less than 1/2 inch) will be mated to both block and pan on the drivers side where pre 80's engines would have the stick. Should I just dummy it up with roll cork or install as the instructions direct? Anyone ever get bit by this ?
