left some things out on first post. I have a 1979 4x4 custom deluxe with 3 speed manual column shift transmission with a NP205 transfer case. I wanted to put in a SM465. What is required and will I have to do drive shaft work? thanks for your help

I honestly didn't know they ever made a column shift 4x4.

Anyway, I'm guessing that most of your components should work for either. Main thing will be cutting the hole in the floor and putting the shifter in. If your transmission is close to the same length, you might have enough play in your driveshaft to work as long as you're using the new tranny with a 205 T-case again. Just take a straight edge front the front of the bell housing on both and measure 1. The distance to the tranny mount and 2. Distance to the tranny case.

A buddy of mine and I were gonna do the same swap on his truck and I remember reading this thread about it. Never did end up doing the swap but with the measurements we took it looked like It was pretty much be a bolt in kinda project. Hope this helps.
