1987 GMC R1500 Stepside build
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:32:47 pm »
Picked this up a few months back after selling my 69 C-10. Needed something slightly more practical and I've always wanted a stepside. It's got a TH400, 350tbi, and was all original (excluding mirrors and motor). I even have the cap for it though I haven't restored it yet. It's nearing the end now, just a lot of little things to do (and the interior).

Sorry for the fuzzy early pics, the camera lens got scratched.

Had to do cab corners, replace steps and fenders, gas tank straps, and as you guys know... a lot of other stuff. Front passenger fender was savable but for the effort and price I put a new one on.

Both rear fenders had rust holes punched through them (on the top and bottom of fenders)

Here it is w/the cap as I'm about to drive it home.

Interior shot (not much has changed but I'm getting there)

Bed

Steps looked like this, the rust has gone through (tapes covering a hole) and the mounting holes that go to the fender are completely gone

A good example of the cab corners though the rocker was easily salvaged

Engine is off a Yale plow truck that only had 14k miles (originally had a 6 cyl)

Pulling the fenders to see the extent of things

Gas tank straps were awful

Overall in good shape, had to weld in a patch on the passenger side.

I POR-15'd under the fenders and cleaned and painted the frame

Test fitting all the new metal

New front fender and most of the prep done

Truck looks great.
Where did you buy the stepside fenders?  How did the fit?
