Radiator Brackets
« on: December 01, 2014, 03:10:34 pm »
I'm trying to find out where to buy the top brackets for a 4 row radiator. I took out a 2 row along with the original 350 and went back with a 454 and 4 row, I don't have the 2 row brackets to see if they will fit or not, truck is an 87 and the radiator came out of a 90 suburban. I called   and not much help on finding out if the 2 row brackets listed for 305 and 350 will work or not. Thanks.

On my 85 and a recent 86 I parted out the top mount is a solid tin piece that incorporates the brackets that the radiator is clamped down and the fan shroud is attached to.

The tank thickness is the same for the 350/350, so the radiator should be the same.  The only one I know of that is different for a 81-87 is the Diesel radiator which is longer.
this is the diesel:

Gas is like this.  the 2 holes in the core support at the bottom of the picture are where the diesel goes.

I made my own for Yellow Snow out of a couple pieces of flat stock. Drilled hols to match the ones in the core support. Then bent & welded the pieces to wrap over top of the radiator. I ended up using a mid 70s fan shroud. Drilled holes in it, & the over hang of the brackets, & holes in the bottom to match the stock mounting. Used U nuts on the bottom, 1/4x20 nuts & bolts on top.

The 454 radiator top mount, like zieg85 said, is a one piece top that is still available. Its the 350 four row mounts that I can't seem to find. They look like the diesel ones in the pic. Not sure if they are exactly the same.
