Which torque converter to buy?

I have a 79 k10 350/th350. I just need a stock setup. What brands are decent? Also, should I be doing any other things down there while I have the trans off? I'm already doing the flex plate.

If I was replacing the flex plate on a 35 year old vehicle, I would replace the torque converter while I was in there on general principles.  They're cheap, they can fail, they can leak, I'm in there anyway....

Unless there is something wrong with it, you are rebuilding it, or it is for a performance upgrade, it's money down the tubes as there is nothing to gain from replacing a functional TH350 torque converter. In fact most of the aftermarket converters use lesser quality stators and are built for economy. If you are going by the "while I'm in there" mentality, then upgrading the transmission pump would be a more meaningful approach.

I am not recommending that either. Leave the trans alone and treat it as a separate item altogether. Concentrate on the engine repair, you'll be glad you handled it this way. If you ever end up with transmission related issues you can address them appropriately on an essentially unmolested unit when the time comes. Leave well enough alone until you're ready to tackle the transmission work.
