I'm looking for optional placement ideas that don't take up too much (if any) bed space.
The old wagons had the spare tire right inside the car right behind the rear wheel. In a hole made for it

Thanks Jason S, I didn't even consider using a headache rack. That should work well.
I'm just thinking outside the box here, but how about a compact spare stuffed behind the seat? I used to have a late 90's Trans-Am; The compact spare in it came deflated with a can of something or other to inflate it. Or, you could get AAA. And, like, maybe a satellite phone. Fictional interaction:I'm Roger, and I'm an alcoholic. This is Triple-A, not AA.I'm Roger, and I'm planning a trip.

If I had enough of them I could stack them up and use them for axle-stands in a pinch.
Well, interesting. I would never have thought. That won't work for me as I do need the seat all the way back. There seems to be trade-offs everywhere. It's a tough decision really.
