More on low oil pressure reading...
« on: September 06, 2015, 01:25:47 pm »
I saw a post titled "low oil pressure reading",  but i could not find anything on bleeding the line, my oil pressure was fine, then i had to remove the guage, after screwing it back in, it reads low.

Does that line have to be bled?

Mechanical gauge - the line does not need to be bled (which will provide only a temporary benefit, anyway, since the line will gradually drain).  Did you back up the gauge fitting with a second wrench as you removed/installed the line?  Or, did you inadvertently kink/pinch the line?

I did not remove the line. Just unhooked the guage to repair the printed circut board.  I'll check for kinks, but i dont think so.  There is just one tiny fitting that screws onto the back of guage. Oil pan is full,  it drops to 10 at idle and maybe 20 driving down the road.

Might be a good time to change to an electric gauge. You'd be surprised how fast one of those can pump 5 quarts of oil out of your engine and even inside your dash.

I put a copper line on mine. It's not likely to break, but it sure is noisy.

Ok, how is an oil pressure guage noisy?

The copper line seems to transmit engine noise in a way that the vinyl stuff doesn't. There's a noticeable chattering that comes through.
