C20 & K20 16.5 wheel alternative?
« on: October 29, 2015, 11:18:52 pm »
Just wondering what alternatives you guys have used out there to replace the obsolete 16.5 inch tires?
Pics maybe?
I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking of making that change but not sure where to go. I have a really nice set of American made aluminum slots on the truck now with 33 X 12.50 X 16.5 tires which looks great, but that won't last. Maybe a new set of 16 inch Jackman style white spokes?

If you're looking for a stock style wheel that will accept hubcaps: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=22714.0

Here's mine with 16" wheels off a early 90's Dodge D-250 and the original hubcaps

Hey, that looks pretty good Jason! I'm totally OK with the complete stock look and I've come across a few Dodge rims. I just didn't realize they would accept the original GM hub caps but it looks like they do.
Thanks for the image.

Join the club. I've been collecting aluminum slotted 16.5" rims for years.  I'm up to 5 complete sets now. I never figured BF Goodrich would stop making  33" & 35" x 12.50R16.5 tires.
Super Swamped still makes 16.5" tires, but not everyone wants mud tires.
Talk about all dressed up and no where to go.

Ha Ha!  ;D No kidding fitz! Mine are polished and look terrific. But next time tires are due (which ain't far off) I think they're going to have to go to the recycle plant.
The only 16.5 rubber I've been able to find are 37 inch take off's from Hummers, but like you said, I'm not looking for a big, aggressive mud tread.

Irish, that tire looks like it would crawl over anything it touches!

There is at least one source, in case you were looking for 16.5's - Specialty Tires of America. They're made in America, bias ply tires. Several widths in 16.5 listed...
Highway rib: http://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-super-transport/
Mud grip: http://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-trailbreaker/
Mud grip: http://www.stausaonline.com/tires/sta-super-traxion/

EDIT:  Just to be sure on the hubcaps fitting Dodge wheels, they'd be 8-lug off the 93 and back trucks (i.e., had a vent window, also could have the first generation Cummins in these trucks).

Just to mention it again, Super Swamper offers quite a number of 16.5" tires, some of which are radials with less aggressive tread.
