hi everybody, so i am rebuilding my motor out of my 76 k10 due to water in the oil because intake wasnt tq'd down by po and figured instead of just pulling the intake id go ahead and rebuild it because i didnt know how long it had been ran like that, and boy am i glad i did. I got the motor blown apart and when i was pulling out the pistons i noticed some play in the rods on the crankshaft laterally, didnt think a whole lot of it until i started pulling them apart and i noticed some were worse than others. Im guessing the water in the oil thinned the oil out enough that it caused at least 1 bearing to spin and was causing a few of the others to start to spin. i got to piston 5 and 6 and noticed that there was a very noticeable ridge (gonna try and post a pic of the section of crankshaft). So as it sits, my crankshaft is toast and im going to be buying a new one because its cheaper than having mine turned and rebalanced. Heres my question, has anyone ever used the reman crankshaft kit from Advance auto parts, it comes with a warranty and the new oversized main bearings. I can get it for about 70 dollars because i got some speed perks and i can use the discount code trt30 to get 30 percent off. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with these or other reman cranks or am i better off just spending the extra 100 + dollars on a new one?

For that price it may be worth it. But I would get it checked out spec wise, and  IMO it is always a good idea to balance the whole rotating assembly( last time I checked it was about 175 to balance everything)

FYI I would never use engine parts from stores like advance, external maybe, so beyond what I have said I have no other review of the crank in question

So what are you doing about the connecting rods? If the bearing spun then you need to have them resized. As with any build, you need to measure twice and plastigauge. Luckily the one time I purchased a crank from the auto parts store I did have an issue. The journals were all .100" under, someone was obviously eating a ham sandwich while machining it. Truth is that this can happen anywhere but why wasn't it caught? I don't think you will have any issues but quality check EVERYTHING

Im taking the connecting rods to a local machine shop to have them done. And they said theyll inspect the crank while im there. Im dropping it all off tomorrow.

i figured, luckily i got up with my machine shop before they got started, went to paint my block and after the first coat i saw a big crack in the side that i couldnt see until i got the paint on it. So it looks like im taking some of the parts i got back and buying a new motor. I figure that with machine shop prices itll be cheaper in the long run to get back the few hundred bucks i spent on parts and save some cash at the machine shop and get another motor. Kinda suck but it is what it is. Good news is ill have some good extra parts. Heres a pic of one of the cracks...
