Hello from sunny New Hampshire!
« on: August 29, 2016, 10:59:27 am »
Just wanted to stop in and introduce myself-- Im Tom, I just bought an 87 v-10 project truck. The plan is to get it roadworthy and use it for a barn/shop I will be building. Then when the shop is done, I want to bust it down all the way and pretty it up.

I was actually looking for a 49-50 chevy when this girl caught my eye--I used to own the same model/same year--bent the frame pulling rocks and let it go cheap---had 198k and ran like an animal!

Saw this girl sitting 2 towns away--60k original miles--old fella owned it and was moving on, and wanted to give it a good home. Once I saw it..that was it--heck with with the 49, Im gonna relive my time with the truck I let go!

I'ved worked part time in a metal fab place (hoods-countertops) for about 20 years -pretty handy with mig and tig--Have never did autobody--will be looking to you folks for some pointers on doing it properly.

I'm pretty handy with a 6.5, owned a diesel sub for years--suffered thru every single thing that they normally throw at you--cooling issues--injection pump--electrical quirks and the list goes on--re powered it with a lovely bomb proof engine from AM General and the frame folded in half 4 years later! Broke my heart. Have a tech1, if your local and need your pump adjusted to the illusive -2.02 setting.

Thats it--will try to attach a pic of the project..look forward to talking to you folks.

You have a working GM Tech 1?
Hang onto it and treat it nice.  It'll talk to the ECM on your new truck and it's really really really not going down in value.

For those of use without a Tech II or Tech I.
I set the pump adjustment with AutoEnginuity and my laptop but that only works on the OBD II J1962 trucks.  There are several better packages now that are easier to work with but in 2001 they were not horribly expensive and really the only game for the 6.5L
Engh Motors software will work for the 94-95 ALDL trucks.
