cab support remove / replacement
« on: October 08, 2016, 08:05:40 am »
I'm working on my 79 c10 and I have most of the drivers side cab support removed. I am fighting getting the inner part where the bolt goes through the caged nut. Its really tight in there. Any suggestions from people who have replaced these before? The bolt is out. I'm using die grinder with cutoff wheel and drill. Thanks, Bill

There's a reinforcement plate welded to the top of the front cab support where the bolt goes.
Then the floor is welded over top of that. It's probably holding you up.
Otherwise it's all in the open.

I can see the plate your talking about. Any suggestions on getting to those far spotwelds on the main bracket holding the cab up ?

Can't really say without being there. Been a long time and mine was dust.

I'm not sure what you are asking. If you are going to replace the floor brace then you need to either jack up the cab or remove it, you can't be resting on the body mount.

I was interested in any suggestions on how to get the spotwelds of the brace that are hard to get at. I used an air chisel because a 2" cutoff disk and a drill were making it difficult.

Glad you got it shorted, I was going to say an air chisel is pretty much the only way to get in there.

Test fit successful. Air chisel was definitely the ticket.

Thanks for the pictures. I've got to do this myself pretty soon. Let me know how it goes.
