What rim dimensions would fit?
« on: January 21, 2017, 08:54:28 am »
83 GMC Sierra Classic

Currently it has 15" stock rims with 235/75r15 tires. I'm wanting to go up in size, say, 17" rims. What rim dimensions would fit? Like, with offsets, back spacing, etc.. I saw a set of Jeep rims on Craigslist for example. They were 5x5 lug pattern, with a 4" backspace I think is what it said. No idea if that would fit. As for tire size, I'd probably keep around the same diameter, maybe an inch or so larger.. Maybe wider too, like 255 or 265

My wife owns a Jeep, pretty sure they won't fit
Anthony with 4-5" back spacing should fit depending on width.  I am running Impala SS wheels on mine and they are 17x8.5 with 5.25 back spacing.

I'm pretty sure our trucks are 5 on 5.5" for 2wd.

As you said your not likely to change overall diameter or width too much, the stock backspacing will work, and allow for a little extra room for wider and taller tires. If you go much wider and taller on your tire, then you need to start looking at backspacing as that is when things start to hit on the backside.

I can't remember where, but I read that on mine, they're 5x5 lug pattern. Tire Rack lists my rims as such, too. Captkaos, what size tires are you running with that? At some point, I do want to get 17" rims on mine. Wider tires, though.

Your right, my Cherokee is a 5 on 4.5, all I remembered was it was a 1/2" smaller

The new 2007-up Wranglers went to 5 on 5".
There is no reason to measure a 73-87(91) I assure you they are ALL 5 on 5".
