It sounds like its the heavy duty 3/4 ton, which was rated by GM at 8600 GVW so that it did not require catalytic converters.
In the first few years of emissions control you only needed a GVW of about 6250 lbs to be exempt from catalytic converters, which was why Ford had the F150 and GM had the Heavy-Half with higher 1/2 ton GVW ratings so that they were non-catalyst. Then the government changed the non-catalyst requirement to 8600 GVW, so all were 3/4 ton or higher.
Based on weighing my 8400 GVW 3/4 ton truck, if I have two people in the cab and full gas tanks, I can carry a load of about 2700 lbs in the bed and will be right at 8400 lbs. Mine is a factory Camper Special, so I believe it has the highest GVW rated springs for a 3/4 ton.
