« on: August 01, 2007, 11:50:45 am »
ok my truck has been in oklahoma for a MONTH AND A HALF getting a new cam, built 700r4, 3.73's and posi. he FINALLY gets it too me last night and i drive it and tell him the drivetrain is makin a funny vibration after it gets into 2nd gear.... he says "its got a stall and that may be why"(BS) so i'm on my way to work this morning in it on the highway and the vibration gets violent and then the NEW u-joints come off at the rear yoke and my driveshaft comes loose and gets al beat and bent up as i come to a stop >:(

so after i FINALLY get ahold of the guy who worked on my truck (which is 4 hours away) he say's "i dont understand how that happened i made sure they were on tight! if you'll bring it to me i'll fix it and get you a another driveshaft" like he's right down the freakin road!!! yea i could go get a new driveshaft and put it in but i'm not going to.... i'm takin it to scoggin dicky letting them handle in and makin him pay for it

You'd think the guy would've test drove it.  I bet he knew about the vibration and didn't bother to diagnose it.

Why did you bring it to this guy anyway? 4 hours away you must have had a lot of confidence in him. What exactly let go? One time I replaced my U-joints and was cranking down the highway at about 80 in my old blazer when the trunion cracked and sent my driveshaft bouncing down the highway. It was a bad casting and they ended up buying me a new driveshaft, U-joints and a muffler since it pulverized one of mine.

thats just it... he says he's not going to because the job ended up costing him 1500 more than we agreed on (i paid up front) and he's pissed i wouldnt pay him extra to bring it to me(you see it was supposed to be done a MONTH ago before i moved therefore its his own fault he had to deliver it to me)

the clip rings in the yoke were either not put in or not put in good becaus the the bearing caps/ends are missing and the bolts/plate that are on the yoke and hold the u-joint are still solid and tight.

This just got me to thinking I had better double check the u-joints I just installed.

I have an extra two piece shaft for a lwb in Birmingham, AL. It is out of an '84 model diesel. Don't know how much work to fit to yours, though.
