Need to determine engine code
« on: August 08, 2007, 09:06:18 am »
I need to buy a rebuilt distributor and the engine code is required L or M. The truck does not have the 305 that came with it, the previous owner installed a salvaged 350. Is there a way to tell by looking at the distributor. I believe the difference is the vacuum advance.

Again the engine is not the original and therefore the VIN does me no good. I went to the parts store and compared my distributor to one for an L code and one for an M code. Mine is an M code, it appears the only difference was in the width of the rotor mount. Thanks for your response VileZambonie you have been a good source of info thru this build. I hope I am done with the questions.

You can read the #'s on the front of the cylinder block on the passenger side right below the cylinder head.
