Mass Questions...
« on: January 01, 2008, 03:09:19 pm »
sorry i havent posted up recent pics of the truck its been very hectic here lately.
but i have a few questions concerning my build.

first question.

the truck has a built TH400 that was done a while ago.
its all great but im trying to get past the 5500 rpm shift out.
under normal driving Wide open it shifts at around 4000 to 4200.
if i pull it down and hold it in 1st it shifts out at 5500 no matter what.
whats needs to be changed to permit shifts round say 6000 to 6200 max.

Second Question.

The motor has been balanced to 7000.
the cam has a range up to 6500.
the factory dist module wont rev past 5500.
what control module can be put in to permit higher reving?
MSD, Accel, Mallory?
want to keep it all stock looking without going to an full ignition system.

third question.

im geeting ready to buy the lowering kit for the truck.
ive been looking in summit, Ebay and a local speed shop.
i want between a 2.5 to 3 front and a 4 rear drop.

Summit shows their brand front spindle for 2.5" drop for $231.39
and show their brand 4" hanger and shackle kit for $149.95
for a total of $381.34 + shipping. ( Close to $100 )

Ebay shows a SpringTech kit with a 3" spindle and 4" hanger and shackles for $330.95+ $83.00 Shipping
Total of $413.95 to my door.

Local Shops carries McGaughys kit thats 2.5" and 4" for $499.95+ tax.

now my question here is what have people has the best experience with?
ive used SpringTech stuff for other vehicles and have had great success.
ive used summit stuff before with great success.
never used a MG kit before.

so could i get some small answers from some fellow truckers.

thanks

Chris

Your module doesn't determine engine rev's...yes your ign module starts to break down after 5500 RPM's but what engine do you have that rev's to 7,000 RPMS?

For your Th400 You cannot do anything about your shift points other than put in an adjustable vacuum modulator without reprogramming the valvebody.

You might want to makje a seperate post regarding your specific suspension questions in the suspension forum.

the engine is a built 355.
Blueprinted and balanced.
it was in a 83 camaro before i got it, all it saw was the dragstrip.
its built to say the least.

as far as the trans i was hoping that wasn't the answer.
ooh well ill just save and build it again.

as for the suspension i was just wanting to know what other people have used.

Well an adjustable modulator will cost you about $15 bucks so why not try that first and see how well you can elongate your shifts. Unless you have an all steel full roller 350 the only way you'll hit 7,000rpm's is on your way to the crusher so don't try reving it that high. Besides you wouldn't be making any power that high anyway. If you want a better ignition system MSD is great.

im not going to push the motor to 7000.
i said its been balanced to 7000.
all i want it to rev to is about 6200 max.
the camaro it was in was a manual with a full msd 6al and he revved it to around 6400 all the time.
as as for the motor,
the bottom end is a full Eagle forged.
the top is centerbolt heads ported, cam is a Lunati Voodoo 276/284.
fed by a 750 holley.
its not a roller cam but its range is to 6400.
so i think 6200 is fine.
as for that adjustable modulator its already got one.
when it shifts at 5500 its still pullin like a freight train.
thats the reason why im trying to elongate the shifts a bit.
