tv cable bad?
« on: February 24, 2008, 10:05:43 pm »
I got my 350 in my 84 blazer this weekend, I cant get it to shift right at all, adjusted it many many times, one of the tabs that holds the cable to the bracket is broken though, will this cause it? If so I will buy a new cable. Thanks

What exactly is it doing? Late shift? Early shift? No shift?

at the moment its a late shift with what feels like lots of slippage, Ive adjusted the cable one click at a time in both directions and the shift just isnt right no matter what. The cable wont self adjust at all either so Im going to get a new cable and see what happens.

put a new tv cable on it, did the self adjustment procedure and now it shifts great. funny how a little broken mounting tab up on the carburetor side can cause so much chaos.

Anybody got a pic where this thing is? My truck has always had very poor shift points. Shifts way way too early at WOT (sometimes at 3000!) and doesn't downshift at all if revs are over 2000. My truck has a 350 with a TH350 and shift kit. Thanks.

Sux, Unfortunately if you have a TH350 the TV cable can't be your problem. Your transmission has a kick- down cable to engage a downshift for passing, unlike the 700R4 that has a Throttle Valve connected to a cable that changes as the throttle is changed. Sounds like you have another problem there. Sorry, Lorne

If you have early upshifts and no detent #1 adjust the TV cable properly. #2 replace the vacuum modulator and install adjust it to fine tune your shift points

Alright, I'll monkey around with it and see what I can do.
