no lockup
« on: March 09, 2008, 01:54:04 am »
i have a 84 short box with a 700r4 mated to a 208, it had a 305 in it and the lock up worked kinda when it wanted then it got to the point where it just went out... 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th are all there but no lock up, now the truck has a really fresh 350 (355) and i want my mileage back... the tranny is pretty fresh and i never beat on it, i was thinking old converter or the solenoid any ideas???

Is it plugged in?

B4 we can help you troubleshoot it we need to know if it's California or Federal emissions or computer controlled lock up.

Look at VECI label under the hood.

OK i have had enough of this, i gust went through $50+ in gas in one night delivering, in 4th its at 2 grand i might as well have a th400, i have pulled the pan, replaced the solenoid, and traced wires and cant find any thing is there other sensors or what, and the guy at the tranny shop said i could put a bulb or something in place of the plug or something... and then the tranny will lock its self hydraulically, not electrically like it is suppose to be doing...

Your lock up converter isn't going to save you that much fuel economy! You'll probably notice a 200rpm difference.

Now check the basics instead of changing parts. So you have a non computer controlled lockup is what I was trying to determine with you before.

There's a vacuum switch on the firewall above the distributor
see if the hose is connected (this switch open when the vacuum drops, unlocking the converter)

this circuit also feeds through the brake light switch (when pedal is depressed it unlocks the converter)
