Auxillary gas tank fuse?
« on: March 11, 2008, 02:51:24 pm »
Hello from a newbie!  Have an '83 Silverado 3/4 ton 4x4 Camper Special owned since new.  Auxillary tank has quit working.  Had to depress switch a few times to make tank switch just before it quit working altogether.  Have replaced switch with a brand new one.  have replaced switching valve with a new one (an ugly, ugly job).  Still not working.

Is there an inline fuse or fuseable link somewhere?  Although this does not square with it working intermittently just before it quit altogether.  Looks like I have to pull dash pad to follow wires back from swith to instrument panel looking for broken wire - whatever.

Just wondering if anyone has experience or can tell how to track down failure.

Welcome to the site! Which tank isn't working? I posted the diagnostic flowchart on this a while back...lemme see if I can find it...

Here it is

Chris maybe you can sticky this page

direct link... the image restriction resizes it so maybe the direct link will help you read it better.

I wish I could see the images but work filters out photobucket. I'm having the same problem on my 85 K10 1/2 Ton SWB truck, now I'm reduced to using only one 16 gallon tank, so I have to fill up alot more, still cost the same as having both, just have to stop more often is all.

thanks guys.  that gives me somethng to work on.  This looks like a great site.  I like the 73-87 only.  Finally a site just for my old girl!

You've probably noticed... and there is probably a thread... but you know the chevy ad where they show all the post-WWII series trucks with primarlily view of tailgates and they skip the 73-87?  Everyone except the 73-87.  I wrote 'em a letter complaining. "What", I said, "73-87 too redneck/mullet for ya?"
