Can you ID this pick up coil?
« on: April 29, 2008, 09:29:54 pm »
I called Advance and they do not have one in the computer like it.  This is the pick up coil off of my 84 GMC Sierra which had a 305 in it originally but now has a small block 400 with HEI...but it was hooked up to truck's factory ESC computer so this coil is bizarre and I cannot find one like it for some reason.  I tried an HEI 75-80 small block 400, but they did not have an ESC, then checked the original 305 pick up coil and it too has only 2 pins for plugging in when the one I have has 3...due to the ESC computer.  I followed some articles and bypassed the ESC, but only in a way that I was able to keep my old distributor and not have to swap this one out.  Doing so may have helped eliminate future problems like no spark, but now I am stuck and cannot find this pick up coil at all?  Anyone with a 84 or so 305 with HEI able to check for me.  I do not have a book on this truck or I would be able to look for a photo in the ignition section.  Thanks for any help.  Here is the photo of the mistery pick up coil in my truck.  I did not do the engine swap in this truck, so I have no clue what the person did or used as an HEI since its a 72 engine and that did not have HEI.  So what they did, I have no clue.  Thanks

Thanks!  I felt like an idiot asking, but I have tried all the parts stores and they keep handing me the same thing for an 84 and it was not the same.  I dont have an Auto Zone so I did not even think to ask them.  The closest one to me is about 25 minutes, but if they are the only ones who have it...so be it.  I thought I was going crazy.  Thanks again!!!

Just cross reference the Auto Zone # to who ever you go to.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

LOL Yeah Same Part, manufactured at the same plant,Different box, different supplier name, and numbers ::)

Buddy84GMC, sounds like the previous owner swapped the Stock '84 305 HEI onto the earlier engine....
