383 stroker plans/ideas/questions

hey guys. Seems to be some people on here with some knowledge so I though I'd ask you opinions. I am trying to finalize my plans before I start buying parts to build a motor for my 82 c10. The block I have to build is a 1991 350 out of a sierra. I definitely want to go with an Edlebrock top end power package I'm just wandering if I should build the bottom end into a 383 stroker as well. Will it be worth my extra money in your opinion? The stroker kit I would go with is a SCAT forged rotating assembly. The top end kit is supposed to net about 410hp. With the stroker kit it is supposed to be 460hp according to the specs. Basically, has anyone had a stroker and do you think it's worth the extra money?

You'll increase torque & horsepower so if that's your goal then why not? Most people who opt to stroke a 350 do it for the extra oomph out of their 350. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you and your pocket book.

If you stroke your 350 to 3.75"
you'll gain about 35 horsepower
and 35 or 40 lb/ft of torque
given that everything else is the same

The 410hp package has a couple things I don't prefer
#1 the heads have 170cc intake runners
#2 the cam is a flat tappet with 234* @ .050" lift

I think your money would be better spent on a set of Patroit or AFR heads,
and since you have a late model block, a roller cam in the 218* to 222* range @ .050.

The 435hp package still uses the 170cc heads
but with a roller cam that's in my most humble of opinions, way too hot for a truck. 234*/238* @ .050"

The 460hp package uses 200cc heads
and a cam that has an intake duration of 242* @ .050"
they just didn't stroke the 410hp kit
they added more cam and different heads

thanks for the tips... so many options out there. hard to pick one. I'm open to other options as I have not made a final decision. The link to the AFR heads all stated they were running 92 or 93 octane. Is this required for aluminum heads or just higher compression ratios? I've built a lot of motors but this is my first venture into a high performance one. I want to get at least 400hp at the crank. just have to figure out the best combo for overall streetability.

CHP did an article many years ago
400hp on 87 octane was the goal
I think they wound up with 390 on the dyno

ok, plans have changed for the motor, i guess they always do before go time. I found a deal on a low mileage lt1 out of a 96 z28 that i'm going to put in for now. Does anyone have pics of this conversion? I'm ordering a GMPP intake to convert it to carb. Thanks in advance.

You'll need the LT1 waterpump, and the crossover pipe between the two heads. I did one of these a few years ago. I used the GMPP intake
