Opinions wanted, yes or no
« on: July 30, 2008, 08:35:24 pm »
I've been considering several different dash bezels options for my truck.  I've got the stock-type silver dash in it now.  I decided to paint the original black bezel to match the dash pad and door panels and I was wondering what others thought.  You know what it looks like solid black, and what it looks like with silver trim, so what's your opinion of how it looks painted to match the dash pad?  Here's a shot of the interior as it is with the silver dash bezel, and here's a shot of the painted dash bezel.

(I kept getting an error while trying to modify my post).  I want to add that although its not so evident in the photos, the painted bezel is actually the same color as the dash pad and door panels.

Might look cool.  Hard to tell when it's not installed.  I personally prefer the contrast of silver or black, but if you like it, go for it, and don't worry too much about what other's think.  You've done an exemplary job so far.

Kinda hard to tell from that pic. Post a larger pic, more detail on how it looks.

I would have to see it in there as I can't picture it, but I think it would look better if you only painted the gauge section (upper) that way the pad would be level with the colored portion.  (if that makes sense)

I much prefer Black or Silver/chrome though...

I think it would create too much of the dark tan color. I wonder what it would look like if you paint the outlines of the gauge holes with the tan and leave the rest of the bezel black? That way the black bezel color could "flow " into the steering column and the gauge outlines could accent the dark tan dash cap.  Just a thought..
Some of the guys were goofing around with some paint schemes the other day. They need to chime in..
I'm pretty interested in seeing what ya do Got2haul- I have a similar interior in my newly bought 87 and my interior needs redone.. I need a trailblazer so to speak  :D

Painting the upper portion was something I considered, thinking the same thing you mention about the color being level with the dash pad's color.  It would be easy enough to mask off the top section and repaint the lower section black, if I decide to try that.  I held it in place in the truck, but I guess I really need to take the time to mount it to see what it looks like installed.  A friend of mine agrees with DnStClr that it would be too much of the same color and not enough contrast.  I saw one like DnStClr describes in a picture of the black bezel with only the outlines painted the color of the pad, and it looked good, too.  In doing this, I was just thinking it might look just personalized enough, yet not so far from stock as to take away from the overall factory-look appearance I'm after.
