even with my other one only half done with the swap, i found this. my neighbor, yes, another neighbor, has this taking up space and wants it gone.. she only wants 200 for it. i didn't get a good chance til today but would rather get some opinions on body experts. initially i saw the rockers are rotted away but i snapped some pics of under the cab to get opinions of you that are more knowledgeable. the motor's not running, kid said it overheated, locked up, but didn't find any cracks in the block. the bed's kinda rough, but not so bad some bodywork can't help. the front clip is fine, the inner fenders look to be almost new, there's no evidence of rot anywhere so they had to have been replaced at some point with aftermarkets since the cab's that bad.

i have doors. i have another cab, that doesn't look like it's even in as bad of condition as this one. i have new rockers, etc. so is this worth picking up and salvaging? i'm thinking at least rockers, cab corners, tail gate posts for replacement metal if the cab mounts are shot.

opinions please. esp on the shots from under the cab...

Everytime I see one of these trucks from up North I cringe. It amazes me how they deteriorate) anyway, there is $200 in good parts, if not left over scrap iron alone. Go for it

So this is it i think it would make two good looking trucks with some work the cab i think get some one to the put new rockers and cab corners in and you have doors the bed i thnk can be fixed and you have all the other panels  so go for it

are those cab mounts too rotten to work with?

here's the cab off my spare parts truck



under where the evaporator was it's rotted thru. so i took it all out to swap over to my non ac cab. but, even tho there's some rust on the other cab, it doesn't look nearly as severe as this one.



i'm wondering if the cab on this junker's too far gone to bother fixing, if the damage on my parts truck is less severe, and more worth fixing. the parts truck is an 80, this new junker's a 77, and my current project is a 79. the 80's cab is sitting on a frame that's twisted like a twizzler so i'm thinking maybe swap the cabs over? but then here we go having that firewall welded.

what's the best route?

Both of your cabs are in better shape than mine was when I started.  The question is, how much of a project do you want to take on?

I've still got tweaking on mine to do to make it a dependable work truck, but I've got half an eye open for an older Blazer or 1 ton duallie. (cheap of course.)

i want to go the easier route. but, at the same time, i want it to hold up, so no cheap fix that'll only hold for a few years... ya know? i'm worried that the 77's cab is too screwed to fix. and that there's just gonna be more and more rust that i didn't even see yet. only thing is NOW i just swapped all teh ac outta the 80s cab to throw into convert the 79 so if i end up using the 80 cab i'm gonna be kicking myself.

use the 77 or you could repair the dash and firewall on the 80 because it does have good rockers but i have not seen what the rest looks like i would tear it down and see what you come up with and then compair them.

You're a better man than me to tackle that much surgery. I was crying when I had to fix mine and I'm in Texas. Good luck.
Look, I can keep an eye out for a decent cab down here if you're willing to travel. If I had the room, I'd stock pile body parts for these trucks.

How much of a project are you looking for?

Any cab is "worth" bringing back if you are willing to put the time and cash into it.  I always like to see the old iron brought back than going to the crusher.

As long as you've got the space to store it and the time to tackle such a project, why not!?  Just as these guys are saying the price is right so go for it.  I'd love to have a place to store a stockpile of old 73-87's, there's a bunch of em to be found now at great prices.

I'd wait on scrapping it alone for the cash though.  Scrap has gone way back down again and it probably will go back up again once this global recession works itself out.
