i didn't really have a place to store it, so spending more than $200 for it wasn't worth it to me. cuz in the end all i could see being able to save was the valve covers... with the way things fall thru, and i just lost my job, it could very well sit and rot so i just used it for xmas presents. i got some tumor's growing in my neck i just had a biopsy on, so i'm waiting on the results from that before i even think of doing anything that's gonna cost me time and money. on top of that mess, i got fired for some crap at work that ended up being just a list of minor excuses that just make you raise your eyebrow at. and i mean the most minor excuses. i'm guessing they didn't wanna risk paying the bills to our health coverage provider if it's cancer. so io'm gonna relax and wait a bit...

I hope your tests turn out negative. In the meantime, can you file an appeal of your firing with the Pa labor dept? If what you say is true,it sounds like the employer drummed up some unwarranted reasons to let you go. You can file with the unemployment bureau for insurance..

i think they saw it coming... i mean literally, there were 2-3 doc appts each week. i tested positive for cancer, now my health insurance is getting cut, which i thought would be 90 days, but turns out just to the end of the month. i'm going to start making some phone calls to see if there's something i can do legally, and try to get the cobra insurance in the meantime til i find something. it's not like i can really go right back to work, there's going to be surgery and radiation scheduled after, so i'm going to basically end up missing work right away. i filed for unemployment, but they denied it saying i didn't make enuff? it got confusing but i think i can refile after the new year. the cancer i have is almost totally curable, but it's been growing for a long time so i don't know how bad it's spread yet.. which i'll find out after this test i take next week. it was really out of nowhere, i mean christ, one of the reasons was because i forgot to send the nightly email to accounting, and another for wearing a hat that was seen in corporate holiday pictures. it's an art supply store, it's not a bank or anything of such strict guidlines, and wearing the hat was ok up until now. the day i got fired, i had two appts that morning, and i got reprimanded then by our district manager for taking so long. then it was oh, you were late so many times and didn't open the store on time, and all that was was me actually opening the store before i clocked in. and this they knew. it was just lame. nothing was brought to my attention, there were no warnings other than, dno't have my cell phone on me while on the floor. which the call i had to take, was from a DOCTOR, and my supervisor was ALSO aware of this. it's ridiculous.

I know this is old and that I never posted anything in this thread, but was curious if everything is ok. I remember reading this thread back in Dec. and it pops in my head every couple of weeks or so. Hope all is well.

i ended up being diagnosed with cancer. it's just thryoid cancer which is supposed to be totally curable but it's been spreading for a long time so 6 golf ball sized tumors were removed. it was a long january, in and out of the hospital a few times trying to correct the crap my body kept doing to me. it apparently didn't like being cut open regardless of the fact it was for my benefit. i'm at home finally healing now but it's long, and things with my body aren't quite right yet. i look like frankenstein my throat was cut ear to ear to get this stuff out. it's still a long road i got more tests to go before i take the radiation treatment to kill the rest of whatever is left over.. but thanks anyway...

Yeah, what choptop said.  I hope all is going as well as can be.  Dont let that crap conquer you and come out fight'n like heck.

You'll get back to turning wrenches in no time.  As for looking like Frankenstein, I am sure you don't have any bolts coming from your neck, so, look at those marks as  survival marks and nothing else.

Keep your head clear and positive and you'll have no problem. I'm thinking 'bout you.

thanks all...

as far as the frankenstein, i'm just missing the bolts actually. some fibrosis has set in, so it's stiff and hard to move and a little deformed looking but they say that should be clear in a few months.

my health insurance was the issue, as soon as i told my boss, i was fired two days later. i elected the cobra coverage, but they switched  coverage providers, who now tell me my docs and hospitals etc are outta network, even though they're supposed to pay my outta network coverage, and refuse to pay my accumulating 60k plus worth of bills thus far. and i haven't even started the radiation, and i need more tests done yet.

Hey 2502, sorry, just got back from Richmond Va. Glad to hear that your making headway. I'm sure there's still a bumpy road ahead. Just stay strong and our thoughts are with you.

P.S. I heard the gvmt is supposed to cover something like 65% of Cobra costs. Might be worth checking out.

that would have been GREAT if i hadn't been notifed of that AFTER i had to cancel it. i just couldn't afford it. i'm making peanuts on my unemployment so it's either pay that and starve, or try to be able to at least afford the meds i'm on. so i went with the lesser and decided not to starve lol..

thanks everyone i appreicate it

I totally understand. I got laid off this year in January for the second time from the same company ::) . I just started back today with that same company but as a subcontractor. This was pretty much a last resort to go back. Trust me, the employment ads are about a quarter of what they were last year in January.

I know it's hard without insurance especially when you yourself needs it. We only cover the kids through the state for free. If your getting billed for medication, I believe you can get away with paying less than the minimum(like $1) as long as your making payments. We do that when we're in a pinch and they don't penalize you or charge you fees. Just something to think about if your recieving bills for medication.

Do you have any leads on jobs yet? I know it's sparce. Do you know a trade? Even though the building industry is almost moving backwards, some people are still hiring. I started installing shoe mould and quarter round (trim) in new homes for the company that laid me off. Its real simple and I work for myself. I'm doing this until I get another offer from resumes that I submitted. I'm supposed to take a test for DNR as a Police Officer at the end of April and hopefully they'll make me an offer. The benefits are great and they'll train. Check your county or state for jobs if your interested. You never know whats out there. Good luck with your search.
