Pre 79 Block passenger dip stick , oil leak problem..

I have had a small oil leak scence I got the truck. I replaced the stock cork gasket with new fel-pro gasket and used the "right stuff" sealent. and still leaked. flex plate is dry. I've resealed dip stick .. But I was woundering if this could be the problem. It is a pre 79 block 4-bolt main 2 pieace rear. with dip stick on passenger side. did they use a pan for a 80 + engine ? I would think they would have to but could this be causing my oil leak because this pan is made for a 1 pieace rear main seal ? it is comming from rear of pan ? has anyone encountered this problem ?

if you have the incorrect pan, I beleive you found your problem.
If it is your rear main, it is pretty simple to change, just messy with oil dripping off the main bearings and stuff.

It is hard to identify the problem how can I tell if the pan is rounded correct for the 2 piece rear main seal ... or how to tell if its a 1 piece rear main ?

Did you run the numbers on the block?
 If the dip stick is on the right side it must be a or 79 and newer block. When you got the new gaskets did you have extra seals, cause most kits come with extra front/rear pan seals, with different thickness (maybe you used the wrong one) or the fateful parts guy gave you the wrong set. Was it hard to put in the bolts in the pan when you buttoned everything up? Did you make sure your pan was square? I usually tap the bolt holes on the pan with a hammer while resting it on my metal bench. They get distorteed when someone reefs  on the bolts. Does the oil pan have the dip stick kick out on the right side? Something ain't righr.

 Hey Andy thats your 383 pics ain't it man did they take alot of weight out of that crank. I never seen so many or so deep of holes. Where did you get your crank kit from (brand) ?

Yep, that's the stump puller.  I don't know the brand of the crank, but the stats on the motor are on this website... www.delbridge.net/install

Mine is a '79 and the dipstick, well the one that doesn't sit behind the steering wheel and operates the pedals, is on the LEFT side of the engine---which is the driver's side. It was that way on my original engine, and the same for my 383.

yea number comes back to pre 79 .3970010, and no it did not come with a extra rear seal for the rear. It was a 1-piece fel-pro gasket.

010 blocks are two-piece rear main seals.

 3970010= 350 69-80 2 and 4 bolt main (mortec.com)
 You might have a mid 80's style oil pan
