New/old 1976 GMC C15

Picked up a 1976 GMC long/wide today. It's all original. Even got the original bias-ply spare. It's ridden with cancer (*sigh*), so it'll be a challenge to bring 'er back. I got it from the original owner. Believe it or not, it's only got 75K on it, despite it's condition. No specific plans yet -- although I think I will probably transform it into a shortbed.
Parking it. Towed it home with a tow bar. It hasn't been started in about 2 years.
My stepside wanted in on the action in several of these pics!
Front clip.
Passenger side view.
As it was towed.
Another view.
The next three are of the interior. Driver's side view.
A wider view of the driver's side interior.
Passenger side interior.
A hole under the cab trim, passenger side.
Passenger side cab corner.
Passenger side cowl and bottom of A-pillar.
Passenger side upper A-pillar. What a mess.
Passenger side lower front fender.
Driver's side cab corner.
Driver's side rocker.
Bedside behind rear tire, driver's side.
More detail of that same area.
Driver's side fender ID.
Entire driver's side. The door
does
close all the way.
Can't get enough of the '80!

First a Chebby, now a Jimmy
Guess the Step was getting lonely
It's sad that these trucks can be had with Extremely Low Miles, yet are in the poorest of condition
My '77 had barely 68,000 Original Miles on the 400, and the Motor blew not even a year after I got it.... The Body is covered with surface rust from being parked under a tree the majority of it's life, and the floor boards & rockers are toast, cause the windshield was poorly replaced.....
Good Save, and Hopefully the engine/trans won't give you alot of trouble... I like LWB's myself, but looking at your Great looking Step and Tow Crew, I can understand why you would go SWB....

Forgot to mention -- it was free.
Are A-pillar's replaceable? Can one be cut off another cab and used to replace the old one? What about the cowl? I haven't looked under the floor mats yet, but I have a feeling they'll be pretty messy, too.

After a little more exploring today, I can see where the firewall has a couple of holes in it, as well. Although I only have experience replacing small areas of the floor board, I have a welder and really enjoy working with metal, so I feel confident I can do most of the repairs; however, if I decide that the cab isn't worth saving, what's a ballpark figure for a good cab replacement? $500? $1000? More/less?

Great find at a great price. That's what i'm looking for so I can take oldwhity off the road and start my rebuild.
I'm sure this one will end up the same caliber as the 80.

Awesome truck, great price. Why do you want to convert it to a short bed from a long bed? Im glad up here in the north we rarely have to worry about rust.. if I had a welder and a warm garage I would be like a kid in a candy store with that truck!

You can't beat that price
I am sure you will get it whipped into shape in no time. As for the price of a cab I am not sure but I am trying to buy a wrecked 83 with a good cab and its less than $500.

oldwhity,
Picked up an old cab to use for cancerous metal replacement, but that's it. I'm still working on the stepside and that will take priority for a while yet.

BlueCollarRon,
I want to convert it to a shortbed for two reasons -- one, asthetics: the short bed lends itself easily to the hot rod style, and two, the
challenge!
